You’ve heard it before… usually in the form of a question.

Assessing readiness has to do with finding out if a person or thing is fit for immediate action.

Are you prepared to embark on the moment at hand?

Yes, being ready does require preparation!

So, get your checklist together; for readiness has everything to do with NOW!

Otherwise, ‘ready’; you are not!

Coolhandluke-1

“What we’ve got here is a failure to communicate.”- Cool Hand Luke

The sharing of ideas, thoughts and opinions between parties is
the basis of communication; consisting of messages, both sent and
received. Though this concept may sound simple, it is one that can go
wrong at any given moment!

In our quests to communicate with one another, the ultimate goal is to
either be on the side of understanding what is being said; or, to have
our point of view understood by our listener. As there are varying
reasons why so many twists and turns exist in this chain, frustration
with the process still continues to be the main link. There is an art
to mastering effective communication; as there are many courses
devoted to it’s instruction. The challenge comes upon us daily to
simply get it right!

In the process, we ask ourselves some of the following questions:

*Is my audience really listening to me?

*Does my listener care about the content of our discussion?

*Will they interpret my message the way it was intended?

We are so wound up for the outcome that we completely move past the
merit of the content of our entire conversation!

Communication is an exchange! How else would we successfully transfer
our thoughts, messages, or information without the use of speech,
signals, writing, or behavior?

Why, isn’t that the point of engaging one another in the first place?

Mon, 24 May 2010 21:23:26 -0700 The Risk With No Reward (Why Would Anyone Ever Take It?) http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/the-risk-with-no-reward-why-would-anyone-ever-0 http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/the-risk-with-no-reward-why-would-anyone-ever-0 I know, reading the title alone makes you want to shake your head
in sheer disbelief, right? We have all become acquainted with what’s
involved in a risk; that chance you take that will reserve your place
in the winner’s circle of life! The emphasis lies less on the lack of
guarantee that is missing from the exercise; and more on the potential
bounty awaiting you at the end of your journey.

Sort of an optimist’s viewpoint.

Now I want you to think about something for just a second. How many
times in your life have you ever heard the following phrase?

No risk; no reward!

I am certain that the number is astounding!

It may appear negative to draw attention to the fact that there are
some risks that don’t have a reward associated with them, at all. No
semblance of success in sight. Nothing coming close to cash out.

At this time, you are encouraged to take this reading thing just a few
steps farther.

Upon further evaluation of such risks, who would even consider taking
that chance?

That number is far more confounding!

Simply speaking, some persons do not assess the risks that they are
set to undertake. There are those people that react to every stimulus
in their lives; just as it happens. Thus, they only reflect on the
outcome once it has already arrived. Too late! Only then, have they
realized that it was not a risk they should’ve taken.

Are you still in disbelief?

‘They’ are among us. If we are honest (hold your breath here), ‘they’
may be us!

So please, take this as a note of advisement. Perform a risk
assessment in every area of your life; as all of them are applicable
and worth protecting as you hold high value in accordance with your
well-being! Examine the risk that you would like to take, thoroughly;
noting both the potential positive and negative aspects of its
undertaking.

Once you have done this mental and visual exercise, it will prove much
easier to determine the net worth of the investment of both your time
and energy into this attempt.

Although it may seem to be a ‘no-brainer’; it must be said that if the
negative aspects far outweigh the positive ones, remove that risk from
your archives, altogether! No further exertion needed or required.

Otherwise, you will be formulating a newly entitled list…one of regrets!

Mon, 26 Apr 2010 09:56:31 -0700 Living A Provocative Life http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/living-a-provocative-life http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/living-a-provocative-life There are all types of people in the world. There are those that are
constantly on-the-go; always flitting about, unable to stay in one
place (mentally or physically) for any length of time. There are also
those that hesitate to make moves; consistently over calculating
everything that crosses their path, to the point of near-paralysis.
Then, there are those that watch the activities of everyone else from
the sidelines; never initiating any semblance of movement at all.

There's a lot to be said for a life of progression. It can reduce the
potential onset of procrastination. It will eliminate the possibility
of becoming stagnant. Frankly, without movement, everything would
remain exactly where it is now! That would be fine if things were
currently in a perfect state. If that is the case for you, you may
stop reading here and return to your life of uninterrupted vegetation.

For those of us who are less content with our current set of
circumstances, herein lies your immediate call to action:

DON'T JUST STAND ON THE CONVEYOR BELT OF LIFE; CRAWLING ALONG BY DEFAULT!

You have been issued a unique opportunity to forge a difference in the
world around you through the use of your talents. Live!

Whether it is in your business dealings or your personal life, allow
yourself to make mistakes, corrections, advancements; and then, to
repeat the process !
(NOTE: These steps may not necessarily occur in that order)

This is a demand for you to take an active role in your personal
development; and, to become fully engaged in this journey; which is
known as your life!

Why?

Why not!

Provocation is good for the pulse! You are urged to encounter the
gifts of your essence; then, to pass this information along to someone
else whose life will truly reap the benefit of having made the
introduction.

Living is an experience; which is an active state of being. If you
are not utilizing your time and efforts as a positive contributor to
your environment; then, you need to examine exactly what it is that
you are doing!

Remember, provocative people leave imprints of intrigue upon the lives
of everyone that they encounter! They are often called upon to do
great things; and, they strive to leave a legacy of fulfillment as a
testament to the risks that they've taken in their lives.

To be provocative takes initiative!

To possess initiative, you must first make a move...

Wed, 24 Feb 2010 07:43:04 -0800 The Flight of February 2010 http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/the-flight-of-february-2010 http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/the-flight-of-february-2010 As the shortest month of every year, it is already a strong
assumption that February will go by quickly; as no other month before,
due to the amount of days that are contained within it. But, it seems
to be even more fleeting than that. It is as if February tilted on
its axis and spun wildly out of control! Thus, leaving us to ponder
its existence within its last days.

February is such a time of temperance as we steel ourselves into
resolutions for prosperity, anew! Its somber prominence rings of
Black History Month; and the remembrance of dreams that are now woven
into the tapestry of our own life's work. It is also a month that we
look for the groundhog, pay homage to the lives of past President's
and to reflect on love's quantity and reflective symbols of
materialism.

But, what else does it mean?

This is where you decide!

Does its passing signify the mere passage of time in its usual
succession? Does it represent tick marks on your calendar against
which you are continuing to measure your goal attainment? Are you
counting down? Adding in? Summing up?

Pull out your compass. Chart your coordinates. The remainder of the
year is yours.

Use it wisely!

Thu, 14 Jan 2010 18:29:45 -0800 VISION EXAM http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/vision-exam http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/vision-exam Alas, another new year!

This is a time that is characteristically viewed with renewed
optimism and the promise of what is to come. We anxiously derive
inspiration from the new possibilities of the world around us. From
our experiences, we draw on our own perceptions; utilizing the
information we have ingested to form the basis of our own visual
system.

Yes, such a system does exist! That system will also determine the
settings of your sights; or, what it is that you ‘see’.

Truly ‘seeing’ requires focus. When focus has not been achieved, your
target is unclear; which can paralyze your mental function. Can’t
move on to the next phase? Haven’t you ever wondered why? Well,
here’s your answer! Lack of focus is the interruption of everything!

When was the last time you had your vision checked?

Here’s a suggestion… Check it on a daily basis. This will ensure that
your goals are always within your view!

This vision exam can be placed on a chart (often referred to as a
vision board) so that you may align yourself, continually, with your
expectations.

Just start by asking yourself the following questions:

1) What do I wish to accomplish?
2) What tools/support/resources are available to assist me in attaining my goal?
3) If the resources are not directly available to me, what contacts do
I need to make?
(That’s where building your network comes in!)
4) What steps will I need to implement to overcome any obstacles in my path?
5) Once this is achieved, what is the next goal?

Feel free to add additional questions to customize it for your own use!

Note: It is necessary to be orderly in your processes; running each
goal through its own query stage.

Why do this?

Because each goal requires individualized dedication for it to achieve
its maximum intended outcome!

Now, that doesn’t mean that your goals cannot be processed
simultaneously; as you are a talented individual with many things to
accomplish! Just be mindful that if you overwhelm the system, it will
undermine your purpose. This is counterproductive and will only lead
to a reduction in your clarity; which will prevent you from completion
of the tasks at hand.

Make any and all adjustments that are necessary for your vision to
remain optimal; for seeing differs vastly from seeing clearly. Take
the time to restructure yourself against all setbacks. This measure
will always fortify your efforts and improve your well being, overall.

Don’t let the attainment of your goals out of your sight, ever… for
your success is completely dependent upon it!

Sun, 18 Oct 2009 11:41:36 -0700 The Necessity of Networking http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/the-necessity-of-networking http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/the-necessity-of-networking No man is an island; especially not when one is in hot pursuit of a
life filled with personal and social enrichment. Along the journey of
life, you need other people. That is a fact.

A business needs customers to insure growth and profitability. A
football team needs players in order for a game to take place.
Establishing this point of evidence also validates another:
networking is necessary.

Chances are, there is someone else in the world that is doing what you
are doing. Are you a writer? There are other people writing. Are
you an architect? There are other architects. Are you a speaker?
There are other speakers.

Getting redundant? Only in the interest of making the following point:

It is not what you do; but how you are doing it that distinguishes you
from the masses.

In our struggle to set ourselves apart from the pack, we must be
continually focused on remaining connected to a body that will nurture
our individual existence.

How is that achieved?

By affiliating yourself with a group of individuals that share common
interests and frustrations, alike. A body that can educate one
another in all areas of expertise and engage its members in communal
responsibility. A group that operates as a co-op of collective
resources that inspires its body to perform to their maximum
potential; and, to challenge one another on points of underachievement
with encouragement and strategic resolution.

Does this sound like something you desire to be a part of?

Then, join a network in your niche and interact with them to assist in
the growth and development of your project and/or business.

Wed, 14 Oct 2009 06:53:55 -0700 What's In A Name? http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/whats-in-a-name-62 http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/whats-in-a-name-62 When we provide anyone or thing with a title, we are bestowing a
certain designation upon them; within their lives. One of the most
common occurrence that we experience is that of child birth. It is
quite a monumental occasion to participate in the process of giving a
name upon which that child will build their life's legacy!

Now, how does this apply to those who create new products and services?

What is relative in all these things is that you are providing an
identity. What is the name of your book? What is the title of your
cd? What is the name of your company? What is your painting
entitled?

Names provide description, distinction; and, are representations of
the intent and purpose of their creator. When choosing an identity
for your project(s), you must consider its purpose and align the name
accordingly; associating it with your intended objective.

So, please choose wisely...

"Every human being has hundreds of separate people living under his
skin. The talent of a writer is his ability to give them their
separate names, identities, personalities and have them relate to
other characters living within him."- Mel Brooks

Tue, 06 Oct 2009 06:58:29 -0700 The Power in Momentum http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/the-power-in-momentum http://weekendbookstv.posterous.com/the-power-in-momentum When people think of the word 'momentum', they usually think of
either its loss; or, its gain in relation to a thing. Rarely do we
give consideration to the power that is present in actual motion;
while we are in transit toward our goal accomplishment. There is
power in taking action; potentially a greater one than you have ever
harnessed in any other circumstance. As it relates to the topic of
momentum, it is now time for a quick lesson in physics:

A slowly moving (massive) body and a rapidly moving (light) body can
have the same momentum.

Hmmm... So, size doesn't matter? At least not in this case!

In summation, the lesson is this... the same power exists in taking
action; whether it is big or small. No matter the size of the
barrier. No matter the size of your company. No matter what is
standing in your way at this time... No matter...

Exert YOUR power!

monumental as they block the view of our future success.

The question: What is currently standing in your way?
